I became interested in photography when I was young. Mostly self taught (but with help from many magazines, books, etc). I started with a Kodak Retina and progressed on to a Pentax ME, both 35mm film cameras, which I still have but hardly even look at any more since recently jumping into the digital scene. I grew up in Queens, N.Y. but spent most summers upstate, where I acquired a real love and desire to learn the outdoors and its creatures. I became a naturalist at Caumsett State Park in my early 20’s, where I lived and taught many school kids about environmental education and nature for many years. I have also attended Tom Brown’s wilderness survival school where essential skills are taught in Native American spirit, about living and harmonizing with nature. The years at Caumsett were memorable and fun but unfortunately, at a naturalist’s salary you can’t afford to take many pictures. Now, with my own diversified business (interior renovation/cabinet maker/machinist/cad draftsman) and no longer a naturalists salary, I have started making up for many years lost. These days I have a wonderful wife who is tolerant to my obsession with photographic equipment and my own 2 boys to teach, of which my oldest comes with me on photo outings every so often and shows great artistic promise. I shoot with Canon gear now, and I enjoy capturing all different types of images but focus mainly on nature.
